Our Day on the Trail

Day 22 of our Lycian Trail adventure focused more on history, and less on hair-raising adventure.

We started the day by changing hotels and replenishing our coffee supplies. Once we settled into our new space and coffeed-up, we hit the streets of Demre to visit a couple of our favourite historic sites.

Is it weird that we consider visits to two historic sites and 8.5KM of walking a "rest day"?

The St. Nicholas Church changes every time we see it. It's currently being excavated AND renovated, so much of the site is inaccessible to visitors. That's not a problem for us, because we visit so often; but must be a disappointment for those who only get one chance to see the museum and its extensive collection of paintings describing the life of St. Nicholas of Myra.

After grabbing some lunch at our favourite soup spot, we made our way to the site of ancient Myra. As many times as we visit, we never tire of the impressive tombs or the magnificent theatre.

We visit these sites frequently. If you'd like to learn more about them, and see additional photos (taken with a "real camera" rather than a mobile phone, please visit these pages on our website:

We shopped for breakfast and lunch supplies on our way back to the hotel, and are now enjoying dinner while watching Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe game on TV.

We clocked about 8.5KM today, but it was all on sidewalks. Back to "real hiking" tomorrow.
